A partial denture is essential when missing one or more teeth. It is a removable appliance that is designed around your natural teeth. Partials are stabilized and retained using clasps that fasten onto healthy teeth.
Partials have many benefits, including:
- Increasing the chewing surface area where teeth are missing
- Restoring aesthetics
- Preventing teeth from overgrowing into opposing or adjacent spaces
To build a partial, several necessary steps are taken to ensure the most precise fit. Impressions of upper and lower teeth and gums are taken. The models that represent your mouth are used to build the metal substructure of your partial around your natural teeth—this step is done at an external lab. Once the framework is made, it is fitted into the mouth to ensure its perfect fit. The jaws are then measured and a tooth shade is selected. The third visit is a try-in of the partial to verify the aesthetics and alignment of the teeth. The partial will then get processed and inserted as a final product on the fourth visit. Instructions are given and final adjustments are made.
Any type of denture or partial can be challenging to get used to. We will do our best to ensure that you’re comfortable with your partial(s) and we will gladly see you back for adjustments should you require them. Partials do not function as well as our natural teeth do. Be patient while you are learning how to adjust with your partials.
Partials can be made with an acrylic base, with a chrome substructure or designed around implants. Whichever partial denture treatment you require, we can help you with the perfect fit!
